Blackjack basic strategy is the mathematically correct play for every possible hand. Master it and the house edge drops to 0.5% — the lowest of any casino game.
Hard totals
8 or less: Always hit. 9: Double vs dealer 3-6, hit otherwise. 10: Double vs dealer 2-9. 11: Double always. 12: Stand vs dealer 4-6. 13-16: Stand vs dealer 2-6, hit vs 7+. 17+: Always stand.

Pairs
Always split: Aces and 8s. Never split: 10s, face cards, 5s. Split vs dealer 2-7: 2s, 3s, 7s. Split vs dealer 2-6: 6s.
The 5 most expensive mistakes
- Standing on 16 vs dealer 7+ — always hit
- Not splitting Aces — always split every time
- Taking insurance — house edge is 6%+, never take it
- Not doubling on 11 — one of the best plays in blackjack
- Splitting tens — you have 20, do not break it up
